From Knowing What You Are to Becoming What You Are
Before reading this page, it is important to understand the Human Foundation. There we begin with Source, the spark within the human being, and the three fundamental qualities that lie at the heart of human and spiritual development: Power, Consciousness and Love.
Spiritual Self-Realization begins where that understanding becomes personal.
It is one thing to know that these qualities exist. It is another to develop them. And it is something much greater again to become them so completely that they are expressed naturally through the whole of your life.
There is an enormous difference between becoming and being.
Becoming is the road. You learn, practise, observe, correct yourself, meditate and gradually become more conscious. Being means that what you have been working towards is no longer something you continually have to remember or force. It has become part of what you are.
This is why Spiritual Self-Realization cannot be reduced to one experience in meditation. Meditation can open a door and allow you to experience states of consciousness that were previously unknown to you. But what is opened in meditation must eventually become visible in the way you live.
If you experience Love in meditation but cannot carry Love into your relationships, something remains unfinished. If you experience inner Power but use power differently when you return to ordinary life, something remains unfinished. If your consciousness expands during meditation but disappears again when you speak, eat, work, react or make decisions, the experience has not yet become the full expression of your life.
Self-Realization must therefore take place in meditation and in matter.
The two belong together.
Self-Consciousness
The first great level of Spiritual Self-Realization can be called self-consciousness.
This level has two inseparable planes.
The first is meditation. Through real spiritual practice, the human being begins to experience Power, Consciousness and Love at a deeper and increasingly purer level. Meditation can allow you to recognise something within yourself that the ordinary personality did not previously know. What was once only spiritual knowledge begins to become direct experience.
But meditation alone is not enough.
The second plane is your life in the material world.
What you experience inwardly must become what you express outwardly. Your spirituality must gradually enter the whole of your existence: the way you eat and drink, the way you sleep and care for the body, the way you think and speak, your relationships, your work, your choices, your treatment of other people, animals and Mother Earth, and the way you respond when life does not give you what you expected.
Spirituality cannot remain something you practise for a short period and then leave behind when meditation ends.
Your life itself must become spiritual.
This does not mean withdrawing from ordinary life. It means bringing greater Power, greater Consciousness and greater Love into ordinary life until the separation between your spiritual practice and the person who lives your daily life gradually disappears.
You begin to recognise true Power and learn to express it without turning it into domination or control. You become increasingly conscious, not only of what happens around you but of what happens within you and through you. You begin to discover the difference between the many human forms that are called love and the purer Love that does not depend upon colour, nationality, religion, position or personal advantage.
You may still see differences between people, because the forms are different. But those differences no longer determine the value of the human being you see before you.
Behind the colour, you see the human being.
Behind the personality, you begin to recognise consciousness.
Behind the outer differences, you begin to recognise the same deeper origin.
This is already a profound shift.
The three qualities are still recognisable as Power, Consciousness and Love, but they are becoming purer. They are no longer simply spiritual ideas. They are becoming the way you live.
That is Self-Consciousness.
Meditation and Life Must Become One
The spiritual path therefore has two sides that can never truly be separated.
What meditation reveals must be lived.
And the way you live determines how much of what meditation reveals you can eventually carry.
The human system must also become capable of carrying the energy of deeper spiritual work. This is why IAMGODIAM does not treat Divine Meditation as something that begins from zero. Preparation comes first. The Human Foundation comes first. The body, the energetic system and the way of life must become stronger, cleaner and more stable so that the energy opened through meditation can move through a human being who is increasingly capable of carrying it.
As the energetic flow becomes freer and consciousness expands, genuine experiences of Self-Realization can begin to appear in meditation.
But the meditation has not completed its work simply because you experienced something beautiful.
The experience asks to become life.
Meditation may show you love.
Life asks you to be love.
Meditation may show you power.
Life asks you to carry Power correctly.Meditation may expand consciousness.
Life asks you to remain conscious when you leave meditation.
These are not two different stages. They are two sides of the same first level of realization.
A and B belong together.
Meditation and life.
Inner experience and material expression.
Only when they increasingly become one can Self-Consciousness mature.
God-Consciousness
There is then a deeper level.
Within the Indian spiritual tradition this higher state is often described as God-Consciousness.
The name can easily be misunderstood in the West. It does not mean that the human personality suddenly declares itself to be God. It does not mean that the ego becomes infinitely important.
It means something much more precise.
At the level of Self-Consciousness, you have learned to know, purify, live and express Power, Consciousness and love.
They have become increasingly natural in your meditation and in your life.
At the next level, something changes in the way they are experienced.
The three are no longer primarily known as three separate qualities.
Their unity becomes apparent.
Power remains power.
Consciousness remains consciousness.
Love remains love.
Yet you begin to recognise directly what was explained in Human Foundation: the three are expressions of one reality. Like rays of one Light, they retain their qualities while simultaneously belonging to one complete unity.
This is where one-pointedness begins to become meaningful.
It cannot simply be understood intellectually. A person can read the words and repeat them, but that is not God-consciousness.
The understanding arises because what once had to be practised separately has become so deeply integrated that the consciousness begins to experience its unity.
At this point, the ordinary human foundation should no longer require the same continual correction.
You do not need to be reminded every day how to eat, how to sleep, how to live, how to respect others or how to carry the principles of your spiritual life. These things have become part of you.
You are them.
And because that foundation is stable, meditation itself can move to another level.
The work becomes finer.
The consciousness becomes more one-pointed.
The three qualities that were first learned, experienced and lived increasingly reveal themselves as one.
This is the deeper meaning of God-Consciousness.
A Self-Realized Human Being
This is also why I use the words Self-Realized person carefully.
Someone who is sincerely practising is not automatically self-realized.
Someone who has had an extraordinary meditation experience is not automatically Self-Realized.
Someone who understands spiritual philosophy is not automatically self-realized.
Someone who is becoming more loving, more conscious and more powerful in the true meaning of those words is moving along the path of self-realization.
But a Self-Realized human being has gone further.
What was once practice has become being.
What was once an experience has become an expression.
What was once divided between meditation and ordinary life has become one life.
And at the deeper level, Power, Consciousness and Love are no longer merely three spiritual qualities that the person remembers to apply. Their unity has begun to become the reality from which that person lives.
That is why Self-Realization is not an escape from being human.
It is the fulfilment of what the human stage is capable of becoming.
And even then, as Human Foundation already explains, the journey is not finished.
Another door opens.
There are further states of consciousness, further dimensions of meditation and further levels of spiritual development. Those belong to the deeper path of Divine Meditation and do not need to be explained here.
For this page, one truth is enough.
Spiritual Self-Realization is possible in this life.
The road begins by becoming conscious of Power, Consciousness and Love, learning to experience them through meditation and expressing them through the whole of your material life.
When meditation and life begin to become one, Self-Consciousness becomes real.
When the three qualities themselves begin to be known and lived as one reality, the door towards God-Consciousness opens.
The path is not about dreaming of what you might one day become.
It is about gradually becoming it, living it, and finally being it.
